Finding What Works
I was talking with a friend about travel.
She said she had a system when she’s flying and that got me curious.
She plugs in her mega earphones and presses play on her classical playlist, drowning out engine noise and screaming kids.
I don’t have a system, except to enjoy a glass of wine and stare out the window when I fly.
There was a time in my life I was so sped up I couldn’t possibly pass an hour or two just taking in the view, staring at the Alps over a Chardonnay.
I would have to be reading or writing or learning something.
Francesco, my beloved who passed, was the opposite, albeit a nervous flier he never needed anything extra to get him through the journey.
Today I am more like that.
Francesco taught me that turbulence was cloud and wind.
Something about knowing what was happening when the plane was shaking, really settled me.
Today when I fly I remind myself of how the system works.
Anyway back to my friend’s travel system....
She mentioned classical music, so last night I tried some for myself.
Searching YouTube I came across a channel but a few minutes in, I was bored and a bit depressed in myself.
I wondered what my playlist could be?
Surely something less serious, more uplifting....
But my mind couldn’t quite come up with anything.
Then, I awoke in the night and was about to do my usual sleep routine of listening to Syd Banks or my Transcendental Meditation when the word “guitar” popped in.
Sure enough I found guitar music on YouTube, not only receiving the answer to my own personal travel playlist but also falling my way back to sleep.
This is the beauty of wisdom.
We can try to replicate someone else’s "system" but in the end wisdom will guide us to what is best for us.
Sometimes that guidance comes in the night, the time in between worlds when the intellect has quietened.
Always that guidance comes in a whisper versus a loud shout.
The key is to trust it, even if something has worked for someone else.
We must listen for what works for us, that is the BEST system to support us. ❤️
