Inpouring
I've come to appreciate the level of outpouring a career in coaching actually involves.
So, for the last number of years (and taking inspiration from Italians), I've carved out an annual break for a month in August.
And although I still have a few commitments here and there and may show up on social media, I don't coach clients every day.
I used to think that because I love what I do, I didn't need much rest, that depletion wasn't really a thing and I would always be fuelled.
Then I started to gain respect for the "energetics" of pouring into others.
Do you notice in your life where you do a lot of pouring into others and even though you may enjoy helping, you feel the need to refuel?
It's so important that we make time to inpour for ourselves.
Not just those of us in the helping profession, all of us as humans!
Let's not wait until we are exhausted and needing recovery to take a break.
We can give ourselves permission to inpour regularly, perhaps even setting aside a specific period in our calendar.
What do you know is an inpour for you?
I'm noticing, that for me, it's anything that lights me up, and it's about becoming more present.
Having very few commitments, places to be and time constraints.
When we are no longer rushing around from appointment to appointment nor saying "yes" to all invites or demands on our time, the mind has the chance to really settle down.
Here fresh thinking can enter.
Clarity we've been longing for can emerge and the creative field is more alive.
Below I share some of the ways I've been inpouring this summer, in the hope this may act as an inspiration for you to go ahead and follow the nudges Spirit is giving you to rest, refuel or simply engage more of what lights you up.
So far this summer my inpouring includes:
💗Declining invitations in favour of just being in the moment.
💗Working on my Prayer Book.
💗Sleeping late and not feeling guilty about the time!
💗Reading novels & watching reruns of Sex and the City.
💗Beach time with my guy.
💗Dance workouts from YouTube (Pamela Reif).
💗Cuddling my dog Celestino.
💗Playing dress-up with hair extensions.
💗Gin martinis and journaling at my local luxury hotel.
💗I also had a gorgeous trip to Florence to celebrate my friend Frank's 60th birthday. Travel definitely lights me up and gets my creative flow going, as much of an inpour as dressing up!
Wishing you an abundance of inspired inpouring!
