Food and Diet

People ask me what my thinking is around food and diet.

I tell you it’s the place I have the most confusion.

With so many diets out there and with my own experience of dieting, I confess I often get lost in all the noise.

So how do we come back to wisdom?

We get quiet.

In the quiet, we know what works and what doesn’t. And we find that, in the quiet, we need far less than we realise.

But what can we do if we find that we aren’t quiet?

We can ask for assistance.

I turn to my Spiritual Team: “Please help me in the area of diet…. What do I need?”

Since Francesco died, I’ve experienced serious bloating.

I’ve tried to get rid of it with diets.

And then one day when I was lying on a doctor’s bed and begging for advice on my stomach and which diet to follow, she did a scan to see what was going on.

Eventually she said, “Did something happen to you?”

I said, “Well, no, except my fiancé died suddenly a year ago.”

The doctor was quiet. After a moment, she said, “That’s what’s going on here. You don’t need a diet change. Your body is expressing unresolved grief.”

I felt such relief to hear those words.

Also I knew that the doctor was speaking to a truth that I understood, intuitively, but somehow couldn’t accept.

“But please can you help with the bloat?” I asked. “I’m so ashamed of it. Really. Isn’t there a quick fix?”

Because there’s so much noise out there about food and about diet, it’s far more socially acceptable to store your trauma in a part of your body than express it. Right?

Wrong. We can’t control our experiences, nor our thoughts. And sometimes our symptoms simply express what we find difficult.

Later on, I had an insight: “Busy mind, busy belly.”

This helped me a lot. But I needed more tangible advice.

So I simply said to my Spiritual Team, “Can you tell me what’s best for me?”

The other night I had a vivid dream of fruits and vegetables. It was so clear to me that I needed more of these. And then one morning I woke up hearing a voice:

“Don’t touch the biscuits, love.”

It was just that. So simply, and gently said:

“Don’t touch the biscuits, love.”

Now I trust the guidance that I get.

And I try my best to follow the advice, knowing that all issues with food and weight are symptomatic of something else.

I’m gentle with myself.

I hope this helps you today. To know that you can hand it over.

Anything we have a lot of worry about, we have a lot of resistance around.

So in this area it can be hard to hear the truth.

In giving it over to the Spiritual Team, we get the answer. And usually when least expected!

Try it for yourself on any subject. Just know that all is well.

Our state of mind can impact on our choices.

Our life experiences can impact our weight, but we’re all doing the best we can.

The less guilt and shame, the healthier we remain. 😊
